Captain James F. Anzalone

My father's ID from his days in the service in WWII. When he enlisted he was put through IQ tests and he scored so high they sent him directly into officers training. He told me he didn't tell his parents for fear he'd fail but when he was through w/training and went home on leave before shipping out he told them. He walked into his father's barbershop w/officers bars and said his father was so proud of him as he himself was an immigrant and to have his son an officer was quite something in his eyes. Dad didn't often talk about his days in the service but did more so at the end of his life. He received several medals including the Bronze Star for freeing soldiers from prison camp in Germany and a Purple Heart for injuries received. He came out of the service a Captain which is no small feat. I am very proud of my Dad. He was a first generation born in this country on his father's side and was always a strong example in my life of all that is good.

I knew about the medals, but no one ever told me the other parts of this!
