My Aching Calves

That's right, they hurt........so would yours if you walked up this set of
stairs. Figure there had to be atleast 300. The view from the top was
awesome for sure. The trek down the otherside leads to Oval Beach in
Saugatuck where we are going for our Wild reunion this year and it is a sand
trail down a dune. Imagine going down and then facing the trek back up to
take the staircase down. I thought it might be a bit much for my already
pumping heart so rested at just went back down. Today my calves ache like
they were knotted up and never ever used before in this lifetime. Whew!

The Mind's Eye

I think and wonder sometimes at the "things" we are attacted to and why. I love horses in
almost any context I see them. I have several in my home. In art I am attracted to faces
of different sorts. Sometimes bizarre, sometimes not. My daughter tells me that some I like
are "creepy" but that's to her, not to me, to me they are interesting. I guess it all goes back
to "in the eye of the beholder"...............

Memorial Day

For us it means a visit to Parnell............and a week hence for me it will be a visit to my own parents gravesite in Escanaba. Gone but never forgotten.

Matt's path

Matt's been in his house for a year now. This spring he's starting to work on his yard.
He's done a really nice job on the path from the back porch to the fenced in side yard.
It leads up to the deck he and Mark built last summer. This along with plantings of
border ground cover, hostas and ferns it is beginning to take shape. Good job on the
path Matt!

Peonies

Along with a pink rosebush, this is my other saved and favorite bush inherited from Shirley (previous homeowner).
As soon as they get too close to the ground I try to clip and "enjoy" them. They are fragrant, volupuously full and
beautiful flowers. Why let the ants have them?

Let the Summer Begin...

Not to much on the Saturday agenda today so we went into town and hit the Farmer's Market,
stopped by a favorite haunt, Phil's Stuff, and walked around the Heritage Hill sidewalk/garage
sales for a few blocks. Not looking for anything but enjoying the houses and gardens. Kind
of a kick back type of day for us..........hope your's was good too!

A New Eden

The Chihuly exhibition, set amongst the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, is a visual delight.
If you have the time and are in Grand Rapids definately experience the wonder of it all.

D-partures

We anticipate each and every visit but are never quite ready for the departures.
The quiet of our everyday life pales in comparison to a few days with Dylan for
us. For me personally the first day they (or we) leave is profoundly depressing.
Life goes from a flurry of non stop activity to very, very quiet. We both can
hardly wait til next time!

Fun at Meijers

They may have super nice Wegman's back East where Dylan's from, but driving your own car(t) and ending your grocery
stop experience with a penny pony ride was pretty special for the D-man.

Visiting Grampa and Nana

Dylan is coming tomorrow til Sunday and we can hardly wait! It seems for us that every 2 months (seeing him) is hard to stand and if it weren't for video camming it would be far worse. Lest I neglect to mention we miss Lindsay and Dave too, as we enjoy their company immensely. We are indeed fortunate they put up with us as often as we come and that we're able to. The time will fly by!

Mom's of all kinds

Watching the geese with their little one's the past week or so has been fun. I enjoy it every year.
It brings to mind how much there really is to teach the young and it truly takes a village. All bring
valuable lessons. Mom's and Dad's being to love unconditionally, protect, instruct, nourish, encourage,
and really so much more. Grandparents, aunts and uncles get to do this too but without as much of the
disciple part which makes it a bit sweeter. All are important and lucky the child that has all of these
special people in their lives.
Happy Mother's Day to all of the people who do any aspect of "mothering" in their lives............for
without it the world would not be as rich.

Tiny Visitor

Thanks to the not so small hole Abby recently put in the screen, we had
a tiny visitor this evening on our porch. Good thing Abby is not still here.

Destined to be a heartbreaker.......

Dylan got "dressed up" last week to go to their neighbor and friends wedding. Little does he know that one day he will be a heartbreaker much like his Dad and Uncle Matt (and Grandfathers for that matter). It's a tough legacy to fall into
but I'm sure Dylan will manage.
